Margaret Mary Health makes every attempt to keep your hospital bill as low as possible while providing the highest level of care. We continually strive to improve our billing process to make it as easy as possible. MMH participates with most major insurance and managed-care companies. A list of those companies is provided below for your review.
If your insurance company is not listed, it does not mean that you cannot utilize services at MMH, but you will need to explore any penalties your insurance carrier may impose. You will be responsible for deductibles and/or co-payments that apply. We request these payments be made during your pre-registration or at the time of service. We understand health care is costly and hope this information will help answer questions you may have about our billing and collection process.
Registration: This is the first step in efficiently handling your financial and insurance data. Please be prepared to provide our registration clerks with your current information. This information includes the following:
Prior-Authorization/Pre-Certification: Insurance companies often require prior-authorization or pre-certification, which means you must notify them before admission to the hospital or within 48 hours of an emergency admission. Some insurance companies require pre-certification prior to selected outpatient services for imaging, cardiology, surgery and rehab therapy services. Please contact your insurance company to determine any network limitations or requirements in accordance to your insurance coverage. Failure to obtain prior-authorization or pre-certification may result in reduced payments by your insurance carrier.
Claim filing: Our Business Office will assist with filing claims to your insurance carrier(s). We do expect payment from your insurance company within 35 days of your discharge or date of service. We file claims electronically to insure faster processing. You may need to contact your insurance company directly if payment has not been received as anticipated. Your insurance carrier may need additional information from you prior to processing your claim.
Specialist Billing: MMH billing does not include fees for providers such as radiologists, anesthesiologists or pathologists. You will be billed separately for their services.
Lab Services: You will need to check with your insurance company prior to the service to see if your insurance coverage restricts where lab work must be performed.
Self-Pay Guests: If you are uninsured or underinsured (large deductible or co-payments) we ask that you meet with our account representatives by calling (812) 933-5441 or stop by the Business Office to review assistance programs and/or make payment arrangements. We will partner with you to control the rising costs associated with health care and we recognize payment options may need to be explored and credit extended from time to time. We are happy to work with you and will inform you of your financial options which may include outside bank loans, Medicaid assistance, charity programs and monthly installment contracts.
Payment Options: MMH accepts VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, cash, personal check or money order.
