Complete recovery after a heart scare
Friday, Aug 29, 2025
Earlier this year, Greensburg resident Steven Hart noticed pain in his shoulder after chopping wood. When the discomfort persisted for several days, the 43-year-old began to suspect it might be more than a pulled muscle. Concerned, he and his wife, Hilary, headed to MMH’s emergency department.
“I didn’t have any symptoms other than right shoulder and upper chest pain,” Steven said. “I was thinking I had pneumonia. It never occurred to me it could be a heart attack.”
Even as he insisted he was fine, medical staff were “swarming around to assist” as soon as they heard his symptoms, Steven said. He remembers feeling the staff was attentive and listened to him, yet also direct with his diagnosis: “They were polite but firm when explaining the seriousness of my condition and why I needed to be transferred to The Christ Hospital
by EMS.”
Steven was having a heart attack at that very moment — and had probably had two more earlier in the week, judging by the symptoms he described.
For medical emergencies requiring more advanced treatment than we can provide at MMH, we are proud to be an accredited member of The Christ Hospital Chest Pain Network. This means our team has systems in place to treat and transfer heart attack patients quickly and efficiently.
After Steven was transferred, cardiac specialists at The Christ Hospital confirmed his diagnosis, including the two earlier heart attacks, and identified a 90 percent blockage in a coronary artery. He was soon taken to the cath lab for stent placement and returned home less than 24 hours after arriving at MMH.
Today, Steven’s doing great and can enjoy time with his wife — the high school sweetheart with whom he reconnected in 2022. He also stays busy working through his “honey-do” list on the home they built last year.
“I’m grateful to the teams at both hospitals for being so attentive and acting quickly,” said Steven. “Margaret Mary has always been my healthcare facility of choice because of the compassionate and high-quality care I consistently receive.”
