Although it’s been 15 years since cancer survivor Kelly Pettit was diagnosed with breast cancer, she still remembers the moment like it was yesterday.
“When I found out I had cancer, I was scared and in disbelief,” said Kelly. “I was only in my 40s and still had kids at home. They weren’t adults yet. I remember thinking I had to beat it so I could be there for my kids.”
In 2007, after having a mastectomy followed by six months of chemo at Margaret Mary’s Cancer Center, Kelly was declared cancer free. A lot has changed for Kelly since that time, but her appreciation for the care she received at MMH remains the same.
“Every year I go back to the cancer center to make sure the cancer hasn’t returned. Visiting the center still has the same warm, welcoming feel it had the first time I entered. I pray my cancer doesn’t come back, but if it does, I’m confident I’m in the right place.”
