When does the new hospital open?

The new Margaret Mary Health hospital officially opens for patient care on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026.

The new Margaret Mary Health hospital is located at 1155 State Road 229 North, Batesville, IN 47006, just north of Interstate 74. Patients and visitors are encouraged to use this address for GPS navigation.

No. Margaret Mary Health has spent months planning the transition to ensure patient care continues safely and without interruption. While some services may be temporarily adjusted during the morning of Aug. 8, emergency care and essential hospital services will remain available throughout the move.

Beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, anyone needing emergency care should go directly to the new Margaret Mary Health hospital. Emergency services will remain available without interruption throughout the transition.

Yes. Beginning at 6 a.m., current hospital inpatients will be transferred by ambulance from the existing hospital to the new hospital. The transfer is expected to take approximately two to four hours.

Visitor access will be temporarily restricted while patients are being transferred to help ensure everyone’s safety. Any additional visitor information will be communicated directly to affected patients and families.

Most services will continue as planned, but during the morning of August 8, some services may be temporarily adjusted, offered at both hospital locations or available on a limited basis. Patients directly affected by temporary changes will be notified in advance.

Outpatient lab services and EKGs will be available at the new hospital beginning at 7 a.m. on August 8.

Parking is available next to the Emergency Services area, as well as in the front of the main entrance. 

The Café at the current hospital will close to the public beginning Friday, August 7. It will reopen at the new hospital on Monday, August 10.

Most outpatient appointments will continue as scheduled. Patients should follow the instructions provided when their appointment was made or contact their provider’s office if they have questions.

Staff and signage will help direct patients and visitors to the correct location. However, beginning at 6 a.m., anyone needing emergency care should go directly to the new hospital.

Yes. Once patients have been transferred, inpatient and emergency services will operate from the new hospital.

While a decision has not yet been made regarding the future of the existing hospital, MMH has partnered with Colliers, a nationally recognized commercial real estate firm, to identify potential buyers and developers for the site who can breathe new life into the space.
