A Birthday to Remember

The Ball family doesn’t have to worry about forgetting birthdays. Last fall, when Miranda Ball called MMH to schedule her C-section to deliver her daughter, the only date that seemed to work for her and her doctors was November 24. Not only was Miranda born on that day, but she was surprised to find out Obstetrician Thomas Brown also shared the same day.

“When the scheduler asked me if November 24 worked for me, I asked her to find another date,” said Miranda. “I didn’t want my baby to have to share her birthday with me. After looking at the schedule, we couldn’t make another date work though, so we went with it.”

On delivery day, Miranda woke up nervous about her impending C-section. After arriving at the hospital, it didn’t take long for her fears to be alleviated.

“Dr. Brown and Dr. (Michelle) Shorten were my delivery doctors,” said Miranda. “My whole family sees Dr. Shorten for our primary care so I was grateful to have her by my side in the delivery room. Both doctors were super calm and reassuring. I knew I was in good hands.”

Weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces, Lula Jo was born at 9:21 a.m. Following her birth, Dr. Brown, who also happened to deliver Miranda 24 years prior, jokingly requested the birthday celebrants be left alone so they could have a moment together.

“All day, I felt like I received special treatment,” said Miranda. “I have so much trust in my doctors, both for my maternity care and my family’s general care. I love that I’ve developed such strong relationships with them. Having Lula on my birthday ended up being a wonderful gift.”
