Ever wonder if your thyroid is working properly? The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of your neck. Its job is to produce hormones that regulate your metabolism. When the thyroid isn’t working properly it can wreak havoc on your energy levels and affect your quality of life.

Unfortunately, thyroid disorders are fairly common in adults, but the good news is they are also quite treatable. If your thyroid makes too much hormone, you may have hyperthyroidism. Common side effects of an overactive thyroid include:

  • Weight loss
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Anxiety
  • Increased hunger
  • Fatigue
  • Sweating
  • Trouble sleeping

If your thyroid doesn’t produce enough hormone, you may have hypothyroidism. Common side effects of an underactive thyroid include:

  • Thinning hair
  • Weight gain
  • Dry skin
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle weakness
  • Joint pain
  • Depression
  • Impaired memory

Be sure to speak to your primary care provider if you have concerns about your thyroid health. Our providers can help identify and treat thyroid disorders so you can enjoy the highest quality of life.
