With all the cold weather lately, it’s easy to start feeling a little stir-crazy. If you’ve been spending more time indoors than usual, you may be experiencing cabin fever. The good news is there are simple ways to boost your energy even when winter feels endless.

Let the light in

Shorter days can disrupt your natural sleep-wake cycle and leave you feeling tired. Start your morning by opening the blinds as soon as you wake up. If possible, step outside for a few minutes. Even on cloudy days, natural light can help improve your mood.

Connect with others

Social isolation can add to winter fatigue. Use this time to connect with loved ones by playing games or cooking together. Laughter and conversation can boost energy.

Keep moving

Cold weather doesn’t mean you have to stop being active. Even light movement, like stretching, helps increase energy. Try short at-home workouts or walk laps around your home.

Stick to a sleep routine

Winter can tempt us to stay up later or sleep in longer, which can actually drain energy. Aim for consistent bedtimes and wake-up times, even on days off.

Don’t overindulge

Comfort foods are tempting in winter, but balanced nutrition plays a big role in energy levels. Focus on meals with lean protein, whole grains and fruits and vegetables. Also, don’t forget to drink plenty of water.

Make plans

Having something to look forward to, big or small, can help break up the long winter season. This could be anything from planning a future trip to scheduling an outing with friends.

Cabin fever doesn’t have to take over your winter. By finding ways to move, connect and care for yourself, you can boost your energy no matter how much snow is outside.
