Many people aren’t sure when a urinary health concern needs medical attention. It’s common to ignore symptoms or assume they’re just part of aging, but some signs shouldn’t be overlooked. Knowing when to see a urologist can help catch problems early.

Frequent or Urgent Urination
If you feel like you need to urinate often, have a strong urgency or wake up multiple times at night to go, it may be more than just drinking too much fluid. These symptoms can be related to bladder issues, prostate changes or other conditions. If they are new, worsening or affecting your daily life, it’s time to get checked.

Pain or Burning with Urination
Discomfort when urinating is often a sign of infection or irritation. While some mild cases may improve quickly, ongoing pain, fever or symptoms that return should be evaluated to rule out urinary tract infections or other concerns.

Blood in the Urine
Seeing blood in your urine should never be ignored. It may be caused by something minor, but it can also be a sign of a more serious condition. A urologist can help determine the cause and ensure appropriate follow-up.

Kidney Stones or Flank Pain
Severe pain in the back or side, especially if it comes in waves, may be a kidney stone. If you’ve had stones before or suspect one, a urologist can help manage symptoms, prevent complications and discuss ways to reduce future risk.

Changes in Bladder Control
Leaking urine, difficulty holding urine or trouble fully emptying your bladder is not something you have to live with. These symptoms are common but treatable, and a urologist can offer options.

Prostate Health Concerns (for Men)
As men age, prostate changes can lead to urinary symptoms such as weak stream, difficulty starting or incomplete emptying. Routine checkups and evaluation of new symptoms are important for maintaining prostate health.

Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
Frequent UTIs may signal an underlying issue that needs further evaluation. If infections keep coming back, a urologist can help identify the cause and develop a prevention plan.

Urologic symptoms are common, but they shouldn’t be ignored. If something doesn’t feel right, getting it checked early can make a big difference.
