Your liver works around the clock to keep your body healthy. It helps process nutrients, filter toxins, fight infection and support digestion. Because the liver performs so many important functions, taking steps to protect it can have a positive impact on your overall health.

1. Eat a balanced diet

A healthy diet is one of the best ways to support liver health. Focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats. Limiting processed foods, sugary drinks and foods high in saturated fat can help reduce the risk of fatty liver disease.

2. Stay active

Regular physical activity helps maintain a healthy weight and reduces fat buildup in the liver. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week through activities such as walking, biking or swimming.

3. Limit alcohol consumption

Drinking too much alcohol can damage liver cells and increase the risk of liver disease. If you choose to drink, do so in moderation and follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations.

4. Be careful with medications and supplements

Many medications, vitamins and herbal supplements are processed by the liver. Always follow dosage instructions and talk with your healthcare provider before starting new supplements, especially if you have existing liver concerns.

5. Keep up with preventive care

Regular checkups and routine blood work can help identify liver problems before symptoms appear. Conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity can increase the risk of liver disease, making preventive care especially important.

Many liver conditions can be prevented or managed through healthy lifestyle choices. Small changes made today can help protect your liver and support your health for years to come.
